Description
This is an old unmarked cast copper mould used for making copper assay ingots at the former White Pine copper mine at White Pine, Michigan. The mould weighs about 50 pounds and is about 10 inches long, 6 inches wide and 4 inches thick; the unmarked ingot weighs about 7 pounds.
You will have a very hard time finding another one of these; I vaguely recall having had one that had a "CR" marking stamped inside it.
These were being poured up until 1982 when the mine began producing pure copper by the electrolytic process.
See page 39 of my book for pictures and information,
White Pine Copper: An Illustrated History of the Mine and Its Ingots.
