A solid every-day writer that offers the butter smooth writing experience and satisfying cap "click" that one expects of S T Dupont fountain pens. The Fidelio's weight, size, and balance are ideal, especially for someone who is looking for an elegant yet substantive EDC (every-day-carry). Takes either standard international ink cartridges or a cartridge converter.
The Fidelios were introduced in the mid 1990s, as Dupont shifted from the Montparnasse to the Olympio as its flagship model. Dupont fountain pens are famous for their sophisticated use of lacquer, including both natural urushi-style lacquers (sometimes called lacque de chine by Dupont), and synthetic lacquer. The Fidelio models feature the latter (synthetic lacquer). Dupont fountain pens are known for being well made and thoughtfully designed, with careful attention to small details. Notice, for example, the similarity of the pen's capped and posted lengths (see below). This means that the cap can be posted comfortably, but without becoming overly long or back-heavy.
I became fascinated with Dupont fountain pens a few years ago, and began collecting examples of all of their earlier models. I'm starting to run out of room, though, so am beginning to sell off some of my earlier acquisitions. The pen is in good shape, but has the microscratches typical of a lovingly used fountain pen, and has been priced accordingly. Microscratches and wear are much more visible on the section than on the lacquered barrel. There is a small scratch on the lacquer, about 1-2mm below the barrel ring (just below the section), but it's difficult to see unless you are looking for it. I have tried to show wear & microscratches in the photos, but they are difficult to capture with a camera due to the characteristic sheen of Dupont lacquering.
